Environmental Scan on Technology Issues Impacting Associations
Kevin Ordonez, Senior Consulting Partner - Technology Lead, .orgSource
As you undergo the strategic planning process, what technology issues or concerns does your plan address? Is what keeps you up at night the same as your peers? What budget allocation changes is your organization making over the next three years? And what are you most likely to implement? During June and July of 2016, .orgCommunity surveyed association leaders to explore technology issues of top concern and actions they anticipate taking as a result. Join the .orgCommunity leaders as they share the results of this technology environmental scan. As part of the study, .orgCommunity leaders conducted a facilitated session with over a dozen association CEOs regarding the survey findings. Hear what these forward thinking CEOs are putting on their radars for success.

Mark Thorsby, CAE, Vice President – Consulting Services, SmithBucklin & Bernadette Patton, CAE, President & CEO, Human Resources Management Association of Chicago
Join us for a fun, interactive learning experience designed for all levels of association staff. During this session, you will attend a meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Fly-by-Night Businesses. You will receive a “Board Book” and be able to observe the behavior of our board members during a typical board meeting. You’re sure to recognize a few of these member types.
This experience is designed to allow you to:
- Examine good and bad examples of behavior by individuals responsible for the governance of the organization.
- Explore techniques for changing governance behaviors.
- Understand concepts that support good governance and prevent, or at least discourage, bad governance behavior.
- Identify behavior patterns that lead to bad governance.
We will also spend time discussing how these behaviors impact virtual meetings and what you can do to make them more efficient.

Rock Your Association Brand: Being RADICAL in a World of Sameness
Mike DiFrisco, CAE, Chief Marketing Officer, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
Associations—like for-profit businesses—compete in often-crowded marketplaces. But let’s face it: if you don’t have a competitive advantage, you may as well not compete. So what is your associations’ uniqueness? What makes you indispensable to your target audience of members and prospects? What turns disengaged members into your best evangelists? The RADICAL branding construct will reveal the seven critical keys for developing a powerful—maybe even an outrageous—brand for your association. Because playing it safe is a sure path to invisibility.
Learning objectives:
- Discover why your brand IS your strategy and get the tools to develop a brand that will help you attract and retain more members, donors and supporters.
- See how embracing the key branding principles of relevance, authenticity and differentiation will help your association stand WAY out from competitive offerings and give prospects a reason to choose your association.
- Give you leadership and your staff a compelling rallying cry and deliver on your association's radical brand promise every day.
