New CAE Requirements

New CAE Requirements to be Released

June 2009 -- ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership have approved several new requirements regarding CAE exams and development hours, effective later this year. 

New Application Professional Development requirements:
  • New applicants must submit 100 hours of professional development hours within the past five years.  
  • Applicants will be able to list general association management programs (such as an Annual Meeting or CAE prep course) without any restriction. 
  • Facilitators of a course may earn 2 credits per course up to a maximum of 10 credits.
  • Candidates with an application on file with less than 100 hours only need to submit the necessary hours to get to 100 – they aren’t penalized and required to submit 25 hours.

  • New professional development credits for mentoring:
New professional development credits for mentoring:
  • Beginning effective Jan. 2010, the CAE program will recognize receiving mentoring specifically focused on the field of association management as a professional development activity.    
  • Hours will count on a 50% basis, up to 10 hours for new applications and 4 hours for renewals. The mentor must be a CAE and sign a designated form completed by the mentee.   

CAE Authoritative Literature will be released in late Fall or early 2010 and will serve as the Authoritative Literature beginning in May 2010.
