  • 1.  Approval of Minutes

    Posted 09-06-2020 12:36 PM
I was asked if boards in the state of Wisconsin can approve minutes via email. All the associations I've worked or volunteered for approve the minutes at the next meeting.

    Does anyone know the answer?

We have done it via email if it's approved to do so at the meeting where the minutes are recorded.

It was my understanding that Wisconsin requires a voice vote, except when superseded by a written document (i.e., bylaws) that acknowledge the use of technology, including the internet or email.

Thank you, Plumer. I've really appreciated the community and separate advice I received. I'm recommending sticking with the current approval at the next board meeting, sending out draft minutes so directors can review them. (AACD has a batch of boards and even more committees.)

AACD's bylaws allow for electronic voting; however, they also specify that a 2/3 majority is required in this case (rather than a majority).

When an electronic vote is required, we ratify it at the next board meeting so there's a record of the vote in the minutes.

    I appreciate your insights.
