Our website is hosted by our association management software, iMIS, and we are looking to provide greater security measures for certain content. While we use the access settings provided by iMIS (restricting access to certain members + requiring a login) some of the content is still discoverable in a search engine.

Does anyone have any experience/best practice for sharing confidential information with certain members, i.e. board of directors, committees? Either with how you share this information with members and/or increase security as to not appear in Internet searches.

    Thank you!

Clare - I am by no means a programmer or <g class="gr_ gr_828 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="828" data-gr-id="828">html</g> expert, but I have a lot of experience with web development and search engine optimization. It sounds like what might be the most effective tactic for you to use is to make sure certain pages aren't discoverable by using the "no index/no follow" protocol on them. This is assuming that iMIS allows you to add that designation to each page through their CMS.This will make sure that your specified pages are not indexed by search engines, but are still accessible by members who log in.

I would assume that <g class="gr_ gr_973 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="973" data-gr-id="973">iMIS</g> support would be able to help you with this if you give them a list of pages that you don't want to be exposed to search engines. This is a pretty basic and straight-forward practice for web developers.

Here's a great link that describes what these are and two ways to accomplish this through robots.txt files or the no index/no follow method I mentioned above.: Using Noindex, Nofollow HTML <g class="gr_ gr_619 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="619" data-gr-id="619">Metatags</g>: How to Tell Google Not to Index a Page in Search

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Hi Clare,

I'd be happy to talk with you.

We have an online learning platform for content that integrates with iMIS.  It is not searchable or viewable if you have turned on the settings which require them to log in.

Let me know if you would like to learn more.

    Hi Clare,

In addition to the other suggestions, I would suggest you reach out to your iMIS reseller/service provider, or ASI if you go direct about this. I was just at a NiUG event in Chicago were this was being talked about in a RiSe session.

If you want an intro to an iMIS seller/service provider, just let me know.

    Cheers,
    Paul
