    Hello WSAE Members!

One of the wonderful things about WSAE is being able to network with one another. The WSAE online community gets bigger every day and is the perfect place to connect to solve the challenges we face and get to know each other. Many of you already know one another, while others are brand-new faces. We feel like it's time that we (both new members and established ones) take a little time to introduce ourselves! Please take a few moments to reply to this thread with the following information:

    1. Your name
    2. The name of your organization
    3. How long you've been working in or with associations
    4. Why you enjoy your work
    5. A fun fact - favorite vacation spot, interesting hobby, unique pet, etc.

I'll kick things off. I'm Michelle Czosek and I'm the Associate Director of the Wisconsin Society of Association Executives. I've been working with WSAE for a year and have been in the association management field for over 20 years. I love my work because each day brings new challenges and opportunities, and I get to interact with so many interesting people.

A fun fact about me.....I love to scuba dive!

    Thanks in advance for participating!

Hi, I'm Ellen Finch and have worked in sales and marketing at AVS Group, a full-service marketing agency in La Crosse for the past 17 years. We've been a member of WSAE for a couple of years, but have been working with various member-based organizations and associations for approximately 5 - 10 years. I like my work because of the diversity of clients and types of businesses we collaborate with, and it's rewarding to contribute to their success. In my spare time, I enjoy shooting photography on bike rides along the beautiful ridges and valleys where I live in Vernon County.

    Greetings WSAE Colleagues!

I'm Dennis Tomorsky and it's been my privilege to serve as President and CEO of the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs for 8 great years. I previously practiced law for 25 years, and as a CPA prior to that. My work enjoyment comes from a combination of having a positive impact on others, and collaboratively developing and implementing innovative concepts. I relax playing guitar (along with some other fretted instruments and a few woodwinds), writing and recording various types of music, and spending time with my wife and our 4 month old granddaughter.

    Have a great day!

Hello everyone!  Thanks for getting this started Michelle, I look forward to learning more about our members!

My name is Jodi Fisher, and I am the President of Impact Virtual Services.  One division of our company is Non Profit Administrative Management, where we provide administrative support to small and mid sized NPOs (generally 50-750 members).

Impact has worked with NPOs since 2006, and we love giving smaller organizations the opportunity to bring in an administrative professional, when before they didn't know even think it was an option!  Over-committed Board members love having us come onboard, and that is what keeps us passionate about what we do.

A fun fact about me is that I love to ride Harleys.  I learned to drive back in 2003, and while I don't currently have a bike (we're loving our camper and spending that time with our kids), I plan on getting back in the saddle again in the next few years!

I love assisting my clients in whatever capacity they need. My goal is to make their job easier - anticipating their needs and exceeding their expectations.

A fun fact - I enjoy Jazzercise, knitting, and spending relaxing time with my family - which usually involves casting (not fishing, because I never officially CATCH a fish).

As I am enjoying these posts learning more about my fellow WSAE members, I thought I would share some things about myself.

My name is John Augustyniak and I'm an Association Specialist working for Executive Director, Inc(EDI) in Milwaukee.  I've been with EDI and working for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) for 10 years, but bring a total of more than 20 plus years of association management experience to the table.

As my position allows me to work with a broad and diverse set of individuals, I enjoy seeing and watch members grow from new members to leaders in the association.

As my different positions have allowed me to see a wide range of areas of the country, from major cities to small out of the way resorts, I still am drawn back to my favorite city, New Orleans, when I want to really want to enjoy a vacation.  It has all my favorite things, great people and great food!

Thanks for kicking this off, Michelle!

I'm Barb Kachelski, the executive director of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. I currently serve on the WSAE board of directors.

I've worked at associations for about 28 years. Before working at AACD, I was employed at the Credit Union Executives Society, Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, and the Fulton County (New York) Chamber of Commerce.

I enjoy my work because I love helping people grow. Humans are the only animal that evolves in their own lifetime, and associations advance learning throughout our lives. Looking back, I realized I established an association while I was in college and have served on several boards of directors. So I guess I'm fortunate my profession is also my hobby.

Fun fact: My first job out of college was at a daily newspaper. I interviewed Tiny Tim, two Flying Wallendas, and then-Governor Mario Cuomo. For two dog-related features, I rode on a dog sled and was attacked by a police dog while wearing protective clothing. Did any of this prepare me for association leadership?

Greetings. I'm looking forward to connecting with fellow WSAEers.

My name is Tom Thieding, and I am the Communications Director for the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association and Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board. I also provide strategic planning and administrative services for the boards. I started with these two groups in August, and have been involved with association work for nearly twenty years. I previously was the Executive Director of Public Relations with the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation for 16 years.

The most enjoyment I have obtained from my career with associations has been building personal relationships with association members. That dynamic human element has challenged me to be more creative, flexible and strategic in helping the associations achieve success.

I recently took a year away from the corporate world to start "Take A Hike Arizona," a guided hiking business in the Phoenix area. My fun time consists of hiking in the desert mountains in Arizona and riding horses with my wife near Verona. I also manage my in-laws farm so I am also an expert fence builder.

Hi Everyone! I'm excited to be a new member of WSAE. My name is Amanda Ridout, and I am the Regional Sales Manager for IDM Hospitality Group. We are a hospitality management company, with several independently owned, boutique hotel properties throughout the Mid-West. I have been working with associations from the supplier side since 2011.

I love my position because our company represents a broad variety of properties, which can accommodate a variety of different guests and events, all while providing a variety of different settings. What really makes representing all of these properties enjoyable for me is that, no matter what property you go to, the standards of service and amenities are the same across the board. I love that my position not only allows me to represent these properties, but I get to know a ton of really great meeting planners and travel planners all over the region.

A fun fact about me - I am from a really big, blended family! I am the youngest of 9 kids, and I have 18 nieces & nephews, and 10 great nieces & nephews. The holidays can be crazy!

This is Jason Kauffeld.  I joined WSAE two weeks ago - just before the annual meeting, so the timing was good.  What a superb dinner the Edgewater served, and so many great people to meet.  I spent ten years overseas in fifty countries, working with nonprofits, communities, associations, and governments. I came back to America in 2008 and facilitated organizational capacity building and leadership development training for seven years through the UW system.  I started just this past April 1 (fun fact: I have twice started a job on April Fool's Day) with the Green Lake Conference Center (glcc.org) as their Director of Group Relations, and I am enjoying meeting people from over 80 countries who utilize our facilities. Favorite place visited: Mongolia.  More fun facts: I love cooking foods from around the world and, on the side, I teach ballroom dance.

Hello! I am the Director of Marketing at Omnipress in Madison, WI, having joined the company in September. I am so proud of the long history this company has in helping associations collect, produce and distribute their content. I have spent many years working alongside and within associations--both in my professional experience prior to joining Omnipress, and as the Past President of the Madison Chapter of the American Marketing Association. I am completely familiar with the trials and tribulations of increasing chapter visibility, relevance and member value. I have also helped to plan and execute my fair share of meetings and conferences. I have the battle scars to prove it -- ha ha.

In my 20 years as a marketing professional, I have worked with a tremendous variety of organizations within extremely diverse industries, and it never ceases to amaze me that no matter the organization--Fortune 100 or small start-up--we all share common challenges.

Aside from being a complete marketing geek, I was, am and forever will be a Badger, an avid swimmer, lover of jazz, cooking and retro 50's and 60's ads. I'm also a very busy mom of 2 kids who (thankfully) share my love of swimming!

I'm Marc Cohen, the new Executive Director of the Wisconsin EMS Association (WEMSA). Although I have been in non-profit management and fund development for the past 30 years, I have been with WEMSA and in association management since this past September.

We just completed a successful Conference and Exposition at the WI Center for almost 2,000 EMTs throughout the Wisconsin. I joined WSAE this morning while in Madison meeting with legislators. I look forward to collegiality and networking, and the opportunity to learn and grow from all of you in the organization.

In a previous life I was an opera singer.

Great to read about so many interesting folks! I've been at the Allliance for Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science Societies (ACSESS) for two years, enjoying my role as public and science communications coordinator. When world news feels discouraging, I feel at (some) ease knowing there are good people working on the important issues of how to feed the world and protect the environment. Since I happen to enjoy good food and good outdoor adventure, this suits me just fine!

I've been a member of WSAE for just under a year: getting a feel for the connections and resources here. Looking forward to my own growth!

Beyond work hours I tend an urban chicken flock of four and a teen flock of two. My previous work was as a training coordinator for newly-hired employees. I was lucky enough to meet individuals from all parts of the world!  I've lived and worked in Wales and Japan, and look forward to enjoying a few more travel freedoms in the years to come.

    Hi WSAE Community!

I'm Sue Irizarry, and I am the Director of Sales for the "new" Hotel Retlaw in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Our hotel was built in 1923 and is currently undergoing a $26 million make-over, with new owners: Legendary, Hotels. I have worked with countless associations for the past 20+ years, so I know how important membership participation, education, & engagement are to these important organizations. I love what I do, because Hospitality is not just a job field, but a mindset. When you truly care about the goals of others, you will usually make your own in return.

A fun fact about me: My mother was the Banquet Manager of Hotel Retlaw in the late 70's, and we lived on-site for one winter, including Christmas (which was beautiful). I loved running around this hotel as a little girl! And now many years later, I am "coming home" to see its doors once again be opened to a whole new generation of memories. So you could say I have come full circle!

    Hi,

I'm Jodi Ray and the Channel Manager with Blue Sky eLearn. I fell into the association education space right out of college here at UW Madison, and have purposely stayed in it for the last 26 years.  The first 20 were with a company here in Madison delivering text based education like Abstracts, Journals and Proceedings. I knew Blue Sky for 10 of those and saw they were really on the cutting edge of the right technology and services to deliver effective online learning.

So for the last 6 years I've been with Blue Sky (working remote here in Madison as the main office is in San Diego) helping associations future-proof their education offerings.  I find this very rewarding because the members who are being trained and educated by their respective associations are truly making our crazy world a better place-whether that is curing diseases or ensuring our bridges are safe or making our electronic payments safe and efficient.....you name it!

Fun fact: I love hosting get togethers. One of my favorites is what has evolved from a small wine tasting/competition party has now turned into about 50 at our house every spring and fall.

    Hello!

My name is Mike Ulmer, and I'm the founder and CEO of Eagle Creek Partners, an Indiana-based consulting firm with a mission to help organizations and individuals set and achieve meaningful objectives for growth and prosperity. My experience includes leadership and management roles with for-profit and not-for-profit organizations both large and small. My work over the years has focused on human resources, information technology, strategic planning, risk management, member engagement, developing future leaders, and the growth of new sources of revenue for membership organizations.

Prior to launching this new firm, I was a senior leader with the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC), based in Indianapolis, where I helped grow the association into the largest national trade for the property/casualty industry in the country.

In recent years, NAMIC had many members based in Wisconsin, and I was fortunate to be able to visit and engage with them at regional events across the state. As a fellow Midwesterner, the people, values, and company cultures always impressed me, and as a new member of WSAE I'm excited about the prospect of working with great Wisconsin-based organizations again.

My firm offers a number of services to associations, including full-service strategic planning, research (member surveys, competitive scans/analysis), technology consulting and support, marketing and communications services, employee coaching, and operations consulting.

We also offer services to individuals including personal coaching, resume writing and review, interview coaching and preparation, and personal technology coaching (training and support tailored to individual needs).

Our current work for clients includes a member needs assessment project for a professional society that was founded in 2020, website updates and technology consulting work, and some resume and career coaching for association executives seeking employment.

I'm best described as a perpetual student, passionate about finding better ways to live and work. I am happiest when I know I'm helping organizations and individuals get better at what they do.

I hold a B.S. in Computer and Information Science from Purdue University, an MBA from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, a certificate in Leadership Principles from Harvard Business School Online, and I hold the CAE designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

    Good morning friends!

My name is Jennifer Rzepka - I'm not 'new' to the profession by any means, I've already got two decades under my belt, but I am the new owner of the company: Association Resource Center, Inc. Previously I worked with (now retired) Jane Svinicki and the company was Svinicki Association Management, but she retired in 2020 and I bought out the company.

It's been an intense time over the past 18-months, especially through a pandemic: going through all the transition matters, rebranding the company, going through our RE-accreditation process (Yay! Passed!), renewing my CAE, overhauling our entire policy manual, creating a business continuity plan for the first time in the company's 35-year history and figuring out a functional remote-work situation for the employees!

Whew! Now that some of the dust has settled my Management Team is looking forward to getting more involved with WSAE through committees, attending (and bringing other staff) to events, submitting material to publications and more. We're also engaging deeper with MPI, some are participating in the ASAE meeting virtually this year and personally I've just volunteered to serve on an AMC Institute Committee!

As a company we've been a bit dormant the past two years as we got through all that. Through all that work we've gained a great, stable base as we focused internally for a bit, and are preparing to "re-launch" in many exciting ways! One way will be through a significantly more active social media campaign coming soon! I invite you all to connect and reach out through:

    Hi everyone,

I'm Kris Ackley and I've been with AMPED Association Management for a few months, but have worked with associations and non-profit organizations for 20+ years. I find association work to be rewarding, challenging, and provides the opportunity to do something new each and every day. I love working with AMPED colleagues and learning from their vast experience on so many levels. I love sports, NFL and college football (Go Badgers) especially. I also enjoy traveling and seeing different parts of the country, and look forward to visiting the 12 states left on my bucket list. A trip to the New England states someday will cut my list in half. Hands down my favorite trip was to Italy, enjoying the Tuscan countryside, cultural experiences, architecture, and of course delicious food and wine.

Hello! I'm Nina Ifurung, a Los Angeles native, and recently move to Madison WI to experience a new thing. I'm a meetings manager with AMPED Association Management. I've been a corporate event and meeting planner in the business space, and have been a board member of member-based organizations and nonprofits. I love meetings and events because of the diversity of people I've had the pleasure to work with - learning from their experiences, and hearing great stories! I enjoy meeting new people, and am always interested in growing in my knowledge, skills and expertise. I love to travel and am entralled by beautiful hotels and properties.
