I am writing because we are a membership organization that has an Associate Member category that is somewhat of a catchall for people in and around our industry. People who are interested in buying member companies often join because they are interested in owning a business in the industry. One of my Board members does not like this because these "Associate Members" would compete with him on buying additional businesses. He wants to propose refusing to allow them in or charging them a really high fee.
Do you feel this is restraint of trade, anti-trust, ethical or any other words you might use? Just looking for guidance on how other industries handle this. Thank you for any insights you might provide.
