In a recent one-question survey of member CEOs, professional staff and industry partners, we asked what issues keep them up at night. We learned that there are three areas that rate at the top of everyone's minds right now:

  • Staff recruitment/retention
  • Membership recruitment
  • Membership engagement

Keynote: Strategies to Attract and Retain Top Talent

Dawn Tryba, MBA, CPBC, CMC, PMP, Tryba Services/Professional Business Coach

It will come as no surprise to you that research shows the power has shifted from the employer to the candidate. This means attracting the best talent is not just about profiling the role and your organizational fit, it's much more about finding out what likely candidates will want from you as an employer. This will require a compelling employee value proposition (EVP), which encompasses all the benefits and opportunities your company offers to attract new employees and keep current ones. During this session, Dawn will address the ten most basic issues facing leaders: attracting and retaining talent, developing the talent you have, managing performance, creating leadership teams, making decisions, reorganizing to capture value quickly, reducing overhead costs for the long term, making culture a competitive advantage, leading transformational change, and transitioning to new leadership roles.

4:45 pm-5:45 pm

Panel Discussion: Cyber-securityYou’re Not as Secure as You Think You Are

Panelists will share how companies and consumers should be diligent – and how boards can meet their fiduciary duty to protect members’ data – as we move into an ever increasing technologically advanced world that includes some bad actors.

Keynote: Navigating Director & Officer Liability While Avoiding a Crash

Jennifer Hamilton, President & CEO, NAMICO Insurance Solutions

High performing boards—even those acting in good faith—can inadvertently trip and fall into some common ethical dilemmas, like conflicts of interest, apparent authority, and antitrust. And in some cases, officers or directors might, during the association's work, intentionally cause injury or damage to persons or property and may be personally liable. What are the common red-flag issues concerning volunteers and staff and what legal liabilities do we need to be aware of as association leaders?

9:30 am-10:30 am

Roundtable: REV Up Your Membership Peer-to-Peer Discussions

What one thing keeps you up at night? WSAE recently executed a one-question survey to members and industry partners and the results were, well, fascinating! This is your chance to participate with your association peers in an interactive roundtable format to learn how they’re going about resolving today’s familiar—and some not-so-familiarchallenges. In addition, lessons learned from previous speakers on these topics will create a lively and meaningful discussion packed with valuable takeaways.

10:30 am-11:00 am

Wellness Break - Ground So You Can Grow

Included in the break is an additional 15 minutes that will include some basic grounding techniques that include balancing breathwork, and light movement that can be done in a seated position. Allowing yourself to ground, breathe and connect gives you the foundation to identify where you can evolve and grow. The hardest part of this will just being sure you show up!

11:00 am-11:45 am

Closing Keynote: Building Community – Unleashing the Power of Events

Victoria Thomas, CFO & Co-Owner, Kelly-Moss Road & Race

In today’s digital age, people are more ‘connected’ than ever before, yet more disconnected, lonely, and unfulfilled. As businesses, we have a unique opportunity to bridge this gap and build strong communities through events. By creating situations for people to come together in meaningful ways, we can help combat the negative effects of isolation, promote well-being and build a relationship with our organizations on such a meaningful level.

11:45 am-12:45 pm

Tour of The Osthoff Resort, a four diamond resort, including the award-winning Aspira spa which features a new Salt Room.

Message from the 2024 Women's Forum Subcommittee Chair

Caley Mutrie, CAE, IOM

The WSAE Women’s Forum is excited to present its third annual conference: Leading Out Loud. This conference will unite women and allies in the association, nonprofit, and hospitality industries.

Terry Pearce coined "Leading Out Loud" in his 1995 book Leading Out Loud: Inspiring Change Through Authentic Communications. When we lead out loud, we communicate authentically from the inside out. And that's what the 2024 WSAE Women's Forum is about - bringing our authentic selves together for a day of sharing, listening, learning from each other's wisdom and experience, and creating genuine connections.

When we lead out loud, we use our voices to create opportunities and shift perspectives. When we speak up and take risks, we free ourselves of limiting societal norms and the roles we've absorbed throughout our lives and careers from gender stereotyping. As aspiring and seasoned leaders alike, it is our responsibility to ourselves and each other to stop downplaying our experiences and opinions and support and inspire each other to find and raise our voices.

Building on the success and learnings of the 2022 and 2023 Women's Forums, this year's Forum will focus on leadership and career development, expanding our influence as leaders in our communities, becoming more assertive in our communications, leveraging the mentor/mentee relationship for personal and organizational benefit, learning from each other how to handle complex and challenging situations that confront us in our professional lives every day, and the importance of wellness, managing stress and caring for ourselves.

This year's Women's Forum will create space for consequential discussions, motivating us to tap into our unique inner voices and raise them for personal and collective benefit in the workplace, our homes, our communities, and our hearts and minds. This year's program is a day-long conversation between our presenters, facilitators, and you. So, ask your questions and share your experiences and successes as we inspire each other to raise our voices and lead out loud.

Don't wait! Please register today and plan to join us for what will be an engaging and much-anticipated program!
