Using Social Media to Educate and Engage Members

When:  Jun 20, 2018 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM (CT)
Social media has become many of our members’ primary way of engaging with the online world. As you know, many people check their social media profiles at least daily, if not more often. This is even more of a reason why organizations like ours should be on social media. If you’re not on social media, hopefully this session will help you move towards being on social media. If you’re on social media, but you think you could utilize it differently, this session should give you some tips on how to effectively utilize it and possibly take your social media to the next level.

This session is designed for smaller organizations that have a smaller communications staff (if any) and it will include some examples of what our smaller organization was able to do with limited resources. It will include establishing a plan, our editorial process, and implementation of each of the mediums currently being used by Missouri LAGERS, how to increase followers, social media policy, free tools available to use to help and how to handle negative comments.

Throughout his career, Jeff Pabst has always enjoyed helping people better understand the value of their benefits. Through his position with LAGERS, his focus is on how LAGERS can further educate its members, employers, and stakeholders about the value of retirement security. Some of Jeff’s duties at LAGERS include, coordinating and executing all external educational events, implementing and distributing all of LAGERS educational mediums including print, webinars, videos and LAGERS’ website, assisting with the overall strategic communications of the system, and he is a consistent contributor to all of LAGERS’ social media platforms.

Jeff holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. As well, Jeff holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. Along with his formal education, Jeff has earned the Certified Retirement Counselor designation from the International Foundation on Retirement Education through Texas Tech Center for Financial Responsibility. He is also a member of the National Association of Government Communicators and the National Pension Education Association.

When not in the office, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife, Kara, and two children. They love to take quick road trips across Missouri, spend time outdoors or rooting on their favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals.
